Self-Care Isn't Selfish

I am currently in a season of self discovery and self care. I often times tend to feel burn out and frustrated and then the Lord had to remind me that it is important for me to take care of my body. Our bodies are God's temple and so we must take care of it. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 states that, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."

In this new year, I am paying it forward by taking care of myself in every way. I am focusing on my Mental, Spiritual and Physical health. I am learning that if I don't love myself then I cannot show love and be my brother's keeper.

Here are some ways that you can take of your Mental and Spiritual Health:

  • You can read the Word daily and remind yourself about who God says you are
  • You can pray to God daily and include Him in all areas of your life and before you make hard decisions
  • You can establish different times for fasting- fasting draws you closer to God and also gives you a quicker breakthrough for some prayer requests
  • You can use Biblical affirmations
  • You can speak to a Christian therapist or Christian counsellor
  • You can try journaling your thoughts to God - I have a few journals that I have and as I read them, I appreciate the journey that I have endured as God wants us to go from glory to glory.
  • You can try getting out of the house or doing activities that you enjoy- I love going to the nearby Beach park as there is something about nature that relaxes me.

Here are some ways you can take of your Physical Health:

  • Keep yourself hydrated daily- it's best to have a BPA water bottle around at all times
  • Try to eat a balanced meal daily with fruits and vegetables
  • Get an annual check up at the doctor
  • You can try exercising for 30 minutes daily or try going to the gym
  • You can ensure that you take care of your hair and nails - you can opt to go the salon or you can try doing it at home.
  • You can ensure that you are taking your multi vitamins

You cannot pour from an empty cup. You have to take care of yourself first. Your body is God's temple and as such we should take care of it. When you do this, you can show your child or children the love they deserve.

As we wave goodbye to the old year and welcome in a new one, it's an exciting time to reflect on the previous year and to give God thanks for the hurdles that you overcame. 🙏 The new year is a chance to start fresh, set goals, and make positive changes. If you're looking to make the most of the new year, the first step is to take some time to reflect on the past year and think about the lessons you have learnt and also remember to celebrate your wins.   What did you achieve? What goals did you set but not quite reach? What could you have done differently? Taking the time to consider these questions will give you a better sense of what you want to focus on for 2023. Once you've reflected on the past year, you can start making plans for the year ahead and ask the Lord to guide your steps and help you to be disciplined and consistent. Proverbs 16:9 says The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps .  Consider what you want to focus on and w...

The Roller Coaster Ride of Breastfeeding | Breastfeeding Journey| How to stop breastfeeding

There are a lot of mothers out there that would love to breastfeed their child. Breastfeeding is really a roller coaster ride. No one prepares you for it and shows you how to stop doing it. I am going to be sharing a little about my breastfeeding journey and how I eventually stopped breastfeeding. GOT MILK? When I gave birth to my daughter in 2017, no one prepared me for the journey that I would endure. My milk ducts were totally dried up and the nurses were telling me that I MUST breastfeed my daughter. However, after showing them all of my attempts to extract milk, they finally gave in and offered to give her some formula. I thought they would make her starve to death due to their strict breast feeding policy. I was finally able to breastfeed after 5 days. My flow of milk was also very slow and I had no choice but to supplement breastfeeding with formula. She was constantly crying after she was breastfed and I knew she was still hungry. When I left the hospital, the nurses had ...
